A Couple of Zen Stories

I’m too tired to write tonight…had a long day in the office. So I’ll just share a couple of Zen stories here. Don’t think too much about their meaning and don’t ask me to explain because I’ll tell you…only don’t know…hehe!

Story One:
Two monks were arguing about the temple flag waving in the wind. One said, “The flag is moving.” The other said, “It’s the wind that is moving.” They argued back and forth but could not come to an agreement. Hui-neng, the Sixth Patriarch passed by, heard the argument and said to the two monks, ”Gentlemen! The flag is not moving. Neither is the wind moving. It is your mind that is moving!” The two monks were struck with awe.

Story Two:
One day, Chao-chou fell down in the snow and called out, “Help me up! Help me up!” A monk came and lay down beside him. Chao-chou then got up and walked away.

i'm so sorry think simple,
i was in the office till very late…got home around 12 midnight so by the time i was online you were probably sleeping. do share when we next chat! :)

as to why i don't want to explain these two zen stories, well, there's a zen saying, "open mouth, already wrong" so you need to contemplate on it yourself. i'm only a beginner learner in zen so i can only say "Hak!"

perhaps my kind zen friends can help enlighten all of us here a little? O_o

recently,it is a rainging season in singapore and here in taiwan.
so i wanna share one of my favorite poetry which is about rain.
the poem described a man's mood when he was in different phase of life.
indulging himself in romantic youth, and then tramping everywhere in middle age,and last standing alone and listening to the sound of rain in a temple.
everything is different,he cannot change anything but seeing the rain falling on the ground till dawn.
(sorry for my poor english cannot explain and translate it completely.P)

clio,
i almost bought an adidas t-shirt today
but my mind told me…"don't u dare! put it back on the rack!" and so i put it back…
i just 'sacked' a client of mine today so i couldn't afford to buy…

my mind moved today…
i fell off the hill and have to start climbing from the base again…but i'm a climber remember?
so i start to climb again…
breathe in…breathe out
breathe in…breathe out

i''ve heard of the story 1 which is the most famous story told by 六祖惠能 in "六祖壇經".
In chinese ,it's「不是風動,不是幡動,仁者心動。」

i guess it means....
所謂萬法為「心」造,一切的外境都是心的投射...所以我們要時時收攝心性,自觀內觀..

as for the story 2, i didn't get it... @@

swooshi..
thank you for remind me of these stuff. :)

gotta sleep...i catch a cold...very tired today
