You are not me…neither am I

One day, Chuang-tzu and a friend were walking along a riverbank.
“How delightfully the fishes are enjoying themselves in the water!” Chuang-tzu exclaimed.
“You are not a fish,” his friend said. “How do you know whether or not the fishes are enjoying themselves?”
“You are not me,” Chuang-tzu said. “How do you know that I do not know that the fishes are enjoying themselves?”

How would others know when they are not me? I am me and even I don’t know. Who am I? I am not me.

meant to read your blog quietly but i couldn't resist commenting on this post.

took a course in philosophy recently and your post reminded me precisely of what I've studied. "I think, therefore I am"

it is true nobody can feel what somebody else is feeling i think. but it always feels good to know that somebody else is able to emphatise what we have put into words or can actually put what they experienced into the same words too... maybe its communication that really matters... dunno..

my, my...a rare visitor or u've been visiting all along but i didn't know O_o

good to know u're also interested in philosophy besides your usual stuff. do share whenever any topics interest u.

meditators will tell u shakespear made a mistake, he should have said "I think, therefore I am not"

if u read susan page's books, u will learn that sometimes communications causes problems instead of solving them…because when we communicate, we actually want the other person to listen and agree with us. i'm guilty of that all the time. whenever it happens, i will imagine hearing the zen master shouting at me "put it down! only don't know!"

ps: invite me to your blog leh ^_^

not very rare.. just seldom.. :)

your zen master is very brilliant indeed (then again, zen masters are supposed to be...)

communication is so two way... practically, two way communication causes e internet to slow down.. maybe that's why SGreans do not have e patience for it..

i'm in my.. erz... quarter life crisis.. my blog's limited to two pple who's spent more than 2/3 of their life with me.. cos i feel some NUS pple take offence at stuff they do not understand..

maybe someday when e crisis is over... i'd open it up.. :) (I'm really looking forward to that day..)

tsk, tsk, tsk…i seem to detect another old soul. take it easy my friend, don't get sucked into your blackhole. life is really beautiful, u just need to open your eyes and u'll see it.

if people don't understand us, it means the timing is not right so just put it down. try again at a later time. likewise, u don't need to agree with others, just try to accept their opinion and put it down. when the time is ripe, u'll see each other eye-to-eye

hope to read ur blog soon
